We the Peacemakers

Online Documentary to Feature Abintra

Abintra's peace education activities will be featured in an internet documentary later this spring. The producer of the project, called We the Peacemakers, is Carolyn Barschow, a certified Montessori guide in early childhood education. Barschow took a year off from teaching to develop the documentary by visiting Montessori schools around the country and recording their activities in peace education.

Barschow visited Abintra in early March after being referred to the school by AMS (American Montessori Society). She was especially interested in Abintra's school song "From Within" (written and recorded by elementary students in 2006),  the Middle School curriculum on civil rights, and art projects related to the Family Diversity initiative.

"Abintra Montessori School (will be) a key part of this project," says Barschow. "I have visited schools in North Carolina, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oregon and I have seen lots of amazing places. The main purpose of this project is to inspire and empower Montessori educators, students and parents to embrace an identity as active people for peace."

The project will be a series of five-minute documentary films and will be released on a web blog, available free to anyone with an internet connection.

You can follow Barschow's progress and see a preview about Abintra by visiting her blog: http://wethepeacemakers.wordpress.com/2010/03/17/nashville-tn/
