Abintra's Tuition Assistance Program

How to Apply for Tuition Assistance

Abintra's Tuition Assistance Program

Note: Tuition assistance funds have already been awarded for the 2008-2009 school year.

Inspired by the initiative of upper elementary students in 1994-1995 who donated allowance money to begin the tuition assistance program, Abintra remains committed to aiding students of long-standing attendance in the event of unforeseen financial circumstances and, when funds allow, reducing the cost of tuition in order to make Abintra accessible to more students.

The school's need-based tuition assistance is designed to be a short-term rather than long-term strategy; the program depends on year-to-year support and designated gifts from the Abintra community. While continued commitment to a student at Abintra is a guideline of the program, the amounts of assistance that the school is able to award one year are not guaranteed in future years.

Abintra promotes objectivity and consistency in financial aid awards, and bases its decisions on the premise that the primary responsibility for financing the student's education rests with the family, and to the extent that they are able, every family should use all of their available resources to contribute toward the cost of an Abintra experience and to maintain a current account.

How Tuition Assistance Is Determined

Tuition assistance is based on a computation of need beyond a family's current ability to meet the total cost of tuition. Abintra uses a third party-School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS)-to evaluate the financial ability of each applicant and to determine an estimate of need. The estimate of need is used by the Tuition Assistance Committee as a guideline in granting aid based on (1) a family's financial need in comparison to all applicants for assistance and (2) the amount of funds available for award. Assistance amounts and programmatic priorities for funding are established by the Board of Trustees on an annual basis.
