Dear Abintra Community,
Here it is. Our school will continue our new path of remote learning through the end of the school year. Governor Bill Lee issued his order that schools close for the remainder of the year, and independent schools made the decision to follow this order throughout the state. We charged forward during Spring Break to figure out how to continue serving our families and yet this news still felt surprising. I was so hopeful we would physically be together again before the end of the year.
We are halfway through this last nine weeks of the school year. We have continued to support one another as a community, and it has required a great deal of work for all of us. We have faced the challenges and are maintaining our connections through technology. That, in and of itself, is ironic for a Montessori school. Weekly we deliver new work to our youngest students or parents arrive to pick up packets of materials. Our Upper School students are working online with the support of their guides. We see each other through Zoom meetings. This next week we will set up times when you can retrieve the remainder of your child’s belongings.
This has become our new reality. There is not yet an answer as to how long this will last. Will we have summer school? Will we have graduation? Will we return in August? I will make the decision about summer programs the first week of May. We will have graduation later in the summer. We do not yet know what August will bring.
We are committed to the health of our community. Please reach out to us when you or your child needs support. That may be a conversation with me, your guides, or Emi or Molly. We are here for you. And you are here for us. I have had so many parents ask what they can do for the faculty and staff. That is a boost of energy for all of us.
We will continue to face this challenge creatively, solving problems as they arise, and appreciating what we do have - each other.
I continue to look forward with confidence.
