Abintra develops confident, self-motivated learners who creatively meet the challenges of life.
The mission of Abintra Montessori school is to assist in the development of the individual child and adolescent by providing a quality education based on Montessori principles and philosophy.
Founded by a small group of parents, Abintra opened Nashville's first Montessori elementary program to nine elementary students in 1981 as an independent, nonprofit, educational organization. Abintra is governed by a Volunteer Board of Trustees, comprised of current and former Abintra parents and alumni and Nashville community members.
The buildings on Abintra’s campus have been sited to preserve as much land as possible and are “green” buildings. Subsequent developments in West Nashville have made this area a haven for area wildlife. Living in concert with the environment is an intentional choice.
Abintra's campus sits nestled atop a hill surrounded by 10 wooded acres in West Nashville. Students visit our multiple gardens and walk the labyrinth with care. Venture further into our woods and you'll find forts carefully crafted out of sticks by Upper School students, hiking trails shaded by tall trees, and a fully-stocked archery range. Our apiary provides a hands-on beekeeping experience. Students spend at least an hour outside daily - often more - and are given ample opportunities to connect with their environment.
On campus we reduce, reuse, and recycle. From Lower School through Upper School students compost and recycle. It is a daily practice, part of self-care and self-sufficiency. It is not only a part of our curriculum, it is the way we live with integrity in the world.
